Saugeen District unveils Reconciliation Hall

Saugeen District Senior School have unveiled Reconciliation Hall.

A ceremony was held to open the hall at the school meant to fulfill one of the recommendations by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to build student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect.

Reconciliation Hall features a museum-style display and information, along with a table surrounding a collaborative art piece from Treaty Week 2019.

Construction on the hall took about a year to complete.

There was a video presentation during the ceremony featuring Mike Downie, brother of the late Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie and co-founder of the Downie Wenjack Fund.

Saugeen District is a Downie Wenjack Fund Legacy School.
