Saugeen Shores Police are investigating the theft of cremated remains from a funeral home in Port Elgin.
Investigators say someone broke into the T-A Funeral Home on Mill Street overnight Monday and stole two white cardboard boxes.
They say inside each of the boxes was a black container with the ashes.
Investigators believe the thief may have discarded the containers once they realized it had nothing of value to them.
Residents are being asked to look through their property for the containers.
Police say the affected families have been notified.
