The South Bruce Grey Health Centre are inching their way back to full service capacity.
They issued a news release saying that they have recently restored certain services at the Walkerton and Chesley hospitals.
They include adding two registered nurses in Walkerton and one in Chesley, securing agency R-Ns to cover shifts at the two sites, and utilizing registered midwives to stabilize staffing at the Family Birthing Centre.
SBGHC says in addition to the recruitment initiatives, they have a plan that details a comprehensive list of both existing and new retention initiatives, including a third-party review of scheduling practice to identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
They also announced that 60 beds are being occupied by alternate level of care (ALC) patients who do not require acute care, but cannot be transferred to their next destination due to staffing and capacity challenges in other parts of the system.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre reduced emergency room hours at the Walkerton hospital in December, and at the Chesley hospital in September due to what they say were staffing shortages.
