Tom is quickly becoming a popular figure in Saugeen Shores.

In this case, Tom is another name for computerized tomography scanner or CT scanner and the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is raising money to purchase one for the Southampton hospital.

Executive Director of the Foundation Tracy Murray says they are currently over 75 percent of their Bring Tom to Town fundraising goal.

Murray says proceeds from this Tuesday’s TV Bingo will also go towards the Bring Tom to Town campaign.

She says there is a need for a CT scanner in Southampton as patients there have to go to Owen Sound to get a scan and that takes time away from nursing and ambulatory care.

Murray believes the pandemic has made people more aware about their hospital and that could be the reason they have been able to generate that much money in a short period of time.
