Construction will begin soon in Tiverton for the new Western Clean Energy Sorting and Recycling Centre with Ontario Power Generation.

A ground breaking ceremony last December marked the spot of the soon 42,000 square foot nuclear sorting facility which will employ around 25 people.

OPG’s Senior Manager of Corporate Relations and Projects Fred Kuntz says they were still awaiting a building permit from the Municipality of Kincardine that would allow for further work to proceed.

Once the facility is finished and running, it will sort out low level radioactive materials from OPG nuclear operations to reduce its environmental footprint of its storage facility at the Bruce nuclear site.

Kuntz says they expect construction to be completed by the end of this year.
