Kincardine Fire & Emergency Services are reminding residents not to swim off the closed South Pier.
The advisory comes after 3 people decided to go for a swim at the site last weekend and didn’t bother to check on water conditions and whether it would be safe or not. Things such as water temperature and proper ladders to exit from the water.
The three found that their bodies started to quickly go into cold water shock, 2 made it out and the third was rescued after 911 was called with OPP, EMS and Fire & Emergency Services responding.
They say to use common sense when deciding to do certain activities.
The devices such as gates, signs and instructions are there for residents well being. They say that Kincardine takes water safety very seriously and they urge residents to do the same.
They say that many new water safety initiatives are coming forward soon, but they again remind that we all need to help ourselves first and make smart decisions.
