As we get closer to the summer months, people are looking forward to spending time out on the lake in their vessels whether it is large or small.

South Bruce OPP Sergeant Dave Hackney appeared on the morning show this week to offer tips to make this boating season a safe one.

He says the first rule of safe boating is to wear a lifejacket whenever you are on a vessel.

Hackney says the Canada Safe Boating Guide has a list of the things you need to prepare your vessel for a safe trip out on the water.

You can go to the Transport Canada website to download the guide.
