Huron Historical Gaol re-opens for Unscheduled Visits as of May 7th

The Gaol is a unique octagonal building that served as the County Jail from its opening in 1841 until its closure in 1972.

The  Huron County Historical Gaol announced that starting tomorrow, Saturday, May 7th, appointments will no longer be required to visit.

They do advise though, that capacity limits may still apply.

The Gaol is a unique octagonal building that served as the County Jail from its opening in 1841 until its closure in 1972.

At the time of its construction, it was viewed as a model for a humanitarian prison design.

The Gaol is now a National Historical Site that receives thousands of visitors each year.

It is open May until October Monday to Saturday 10 am until 4:30pm and Sunday 1 to 4:30pm.
