A Bayfield resident has been fined a total of $3,000 after pleading guilty to two charges related to the unlawful discharge of a firearm from a conveyance and trespassing for the purpose of hunting.
The charges stem from a November 3, 2021 incident when conservation officers were conducting a deer decoy operation southeast of Bayfield.
The operation was planned as a response to historic occurrences of unsafe hunting practices in the same area.
Officers observed the person shoot at the decoy, which was located on private property in which the person did not have permission to hunt, from inside his vehicle.
Conservation officers remind everyone that by respecting seasons, sactuaries, bag and possession limits, they help ensure the natural resources stay healthy.
