This is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey says youth sex trafficking and sexual assault continue to be huge problems in our region.

In a news release, youth counsellor Abbi Barrie says while more people are aware of human trafficking, many are still struggling to identify it and take action.

She says it continues to remain under the radar.

Barrie says contrary to popular belief, victims of sexual assault are not stronger as a result.

She says nobody is strong because of the violence they experience, victims are only strong because of who they are.

For more information about local anti-human trafficking initiatives, visit the Violence Prevention Grey Bruce website.
