Bruce County Council received the report from the Ombudsman of Ontario, Paul Dube, following his investigation into four closed meetings held on September 21st, 2017, August 2nd, 2018, September 6th, 2018, and January 10th, 2019.

The complainant filed in February of last year about the meetings alleging that the four were closed improperly to the public and did not fit within the exceptions of the Municipal Act.

The Ombudsman found in his investigation that the August 2, 2018 meeting did not contravene the Act when it went in camera, but did find the Committee in contravention of the act on the other three meetings.

September 21st, 2017 and September 6th, 2018 were found to not fit within any except of the Act’s open meeting rules.

The January 10th, 2019 meeting was found to contravene the act only on some of its in-camera discussions.

The issues permitted were in regards to human resources while they found that it could have been separated from the rest of the discussion related to an organization that supports growth in the nuclear energy industry.
