The Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign has hit a major milestone, raising over $1 million dollars for Phase 2 of their campaign: two new youth baseball diamonds and an accessible playground.
The donation that pushed the campaign over the mark was a $25,000 Home Run Donation courtesy of the Saugeen Shores Minor Baseball Association (SSMBA).
Campaign Co-Chair and Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt says it’s fitting that Minor Baseball would provide the donation as they pivot to funding new amenities for youth teams.
After the very successful “Quiet Ask” phase of donations from corporations, local businesses, and service clubs, the campaign is now trying to raise $50,000 through public donations for two youth batting cages and a storage facility for minor baseball.
Laura Kranenburg, President of the SSMBA says they are experiencing record numbers of kids in their programs and the new equipment at the Lamont Sports Park is much-needed.
Plans for Phase 2 are well underway: council has approved a Prime Consultant to oversee the development and construction of the second phase. The first phase of the park is set to open in May 2023.
