The Bruce County Paramedic Services Training Team recently worked with the Saugeen Shores Fire Department and the Marine Heritage Society of Southampton to develop a training video on how to respond to emergencies on Chantry Island.

The popular tourist destination sits just over one mile from Southampton on Lake Huron and features an 80 foot high Imperial Lighthouse built in the mid-1800s.

The Training Team captured video footage of the rescue process, including the treatment of a patient on top of the lighthouse and the transportation off the island and back to the harbour.

The video is an internal training tool for local paramedics and first responders.

Paramedic Services Chief Steve Schaus says the training exercise video will be valuable for all staff to review, should they need to go over to the island and extricate a patient from the lighthouse tower.
