Kincardine council approved the purchase and installation of emergency vehicle pre-emption equipment for all lights along Hwy 21 at their Monday council meeting.

The Ministry of Transportation approached the town about installing the equipment, which will cost the town $70,000.

Fire chief Brad Lemaich says it will make a huge difference for safety of emergency vehicles, as Ontario law requires them to stop and only proceed through red lights when it is clear to do so, and drivers are never assured they’ll be given the right of way.

This system guarantees emergency vehicles will get a green light when responding to emergencies.

Council directed staff to include the purchase and installation of of the equipment for all Hwy 21 intersections – the two existing ones and the two that will be completed next year – in the 2023 Municipal Budget.
