With the sudden loss of Goderich Mayor John Grace there have been statements of condolences and memorials being posted all across Social Media.
One in particular is on the Facebook page for Cravings on the Square in Goderich.
In the post Owner Nicole Scruton speaks to how shortly after she bought the business then Deputy Mayor Grace dropped by to offer his support.
“He would come in saying that everyone is yapping at Town Hall trying to figure out who bought the Ice Cream Store in the middle of the off-season going into Winter. I should have known it was Scruton’s daughter. If there’s anybody’s going to make a go of it you are.”
Scruton added that Grace was a fervent supporter adding that he just wanted to see people successful, do their best, their hardest and be there for support if needed.
The same sentiments were shared by both the Goderich BIA and Goderich & Huron Chamber of Commerce. BIA Manager David Mackechnie says this to the level of support they saw from Mayor Grace.
“There were a few times, sort of starting with the Launch, where in my mind we have created these huge events and we are going to go and someone will go we can’t do this. And it was never like that with him. He was how can we make this happen? How can we do things this big? What supports do you need? How can the town help you? How can council help you? How can I as Mayor help you?”
Chair of the Huron & Goderich Chamber, Jennifer Verdam-Woodward says they saw the same.
“He had such good ideas and he could drive an idea through until it was finished. And never really liked it when anyone said no to him.”
