Former Provincial Member of Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Bill Murdoch has passed away.
Murdoch represented the riding from 1990 until 2011.
He first entered politics being elected as a Councillor in Sydenham Township and also as Reeve.
He first entered provincial politics on his second attempt, as his first in 1987 was unsuccessful with the landslide victory of David Peterson’s Liberal government at the time.
He was first elected in 1990, handily re-elected in 1995 and 1999, both of which were under the Progressive Conservatives and leader Mike Harris.
Even faced with the PC’s loss in the 2003 election Murdoch was re-elected in his own riding.
He announced his retirement from Politics on July 5, 2010 following the 2011 provincial election.
He was replaced in the riding by MPP Bill Walker.
Murdoch was presented with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Coin last month in recognition of his service to the community.
Bill Murdoch was 77.
