The Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force has compiled a list of resources to help voters understand the role of municipal governments ahead of the upcoming election.
Coordinator Jill Umbach says local governments have more influence over things like housing policy than people realize.
“In Kincardine, there’s a housing task force. This is the municipality taking on something that normally in the past, would stay at the county and provincial level,” she says. “A lot of people think, we’ll tell the big guys upstairs to give us more money… but that’s why it’s so important to understand who is responsible for what, so that’s a component of this new resource page.”
Along with housing policy, the resource page touches on issues of income distribution, health equity, and gender, diversity and inclusion.
It also provides directories to where you can learn more about what’s going on in your community’s election.
