The Wiarton Propeller Club will be closing their building and the land will be donated to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula in order to help develop affordable housing.

Members of Council and the club’s Board of Directors made a joint announcement on Tuesday regarding the future project.

The club cited rising costs to operate the building, a decline in rental revenue and a lack of volunteers as reasons they could no longer run the facility.

“With a lack of attainable housing in our area, this gift from the Propeller Club Board of Directors gives the Town a rare and unique opportunity to steer a critical housing project in support of our residents who are in great need of accommodation they can afford” said Mayor Janice Jackson.

Town will issue an RFP to seek developers who wish to build an affordable housing project in Wiarton.
