Hanover police are reminding renters to be aware, as they continue to investigate a fraud case that recently occurred in town.
Police say the victim provided payment for a rental unit advertised on Kijiji. They gave the lister several hundred dollars and later found the property advertised was not actually for rent.
Police are reminding everyone to confirm the legitimacy of such ads prior to transferring money. A good strategy is to complete a tour of the property, and arrange a face to face meeting with the renter if at all possible.
If anyone has information about this fraud, they are asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
