The Town of South Bruce Peninsula says a newly implemented Short Term Rental Accommodation program is achieving its goals as it wraps up its first year.

In a report presented to council, CAO Bill Jones said calls and emails about issues with neighbouring cottage rentals have all but ceased since the town began licensing STRA properties on Jan. 1.

The program is 100% financially self-sustaining and will have a surplus in the neighbourhood of $120,000. The licence fee was $800 in year one, but staff say the fee could be reduced to 350 for next year and still sustain the program.

Mayor Janice Jackson says the program has been a success so far, as she noticed a lack of complaints along with getting some kudos from a recent delegation to council.
