The founder of Goderich’s Free Little Pantry program was honoured at the town council meeting on Monday.

Avery Greaves started the project, which installed three outdoor pantries around town to provide the vulnerable population with 24/7 access to food.

Greaves says she couldn’t have done it without the support of the community, including several members of council.

“I want to thank Coun. (Trevor) Bazinet, because I know he and Jill are making regular donations,” she said. “I also want to thank Coun. (Petrie) and (Segeren) because they are both my volunteers. We have an amazing group of about 21 individuals, so I might be doing a lot behind the scenes but it is the volunteers that are doing all the on-the-ground work.”

She says other communities have been reaching out about implementing their own programs.

The Pantries are located at the Goderich Tourism Centre on Hamilton Street, the backside of the Goderich Library and the corner of Bennet & Eldon Street, beside John O’Keefe Park.
