Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson joined the South Bruce Grey health Centre’s virtual Community Info Session last night to announce operational funding for an MRI machine at the Kincardine hospital.

The site will be one of 27 new MRI machines in hospitals across Ontario to improve access to diagnostic imaging services & reduce wait times.

SBGHC was the first rural hospital in Canada to install a CT scanner in the Walkerton hospital, and is now among the first rural hospitals to get an MRI machine.

MPP Thompson says expanding access to diagnostic care is critical in rural Ontario where so many have to travel long distances to receive these services.

SBGHC President & CEO Michael Barrett says the locations of the new MRI’s fills in gaps for the area.

“You can see there is a huge gap there where we need service. Now we are going to have that service thanks to the announcement today. We are very fortunate.”

Other locations set for MRI machines in the area are Goderich, Wingham and Palmerston.
