A Mount Forest resident was charged earlier this month after trying to drive away from an accident along Nile Road near Sheppardton.

Huron County OPP responded to a call of a vehicle in a ditch around 11 a.m. on Dec. 17 near Lanesville line.

When officers arrived, the vehicle had just been towed out and the driver attempted to leave, despite sustaining damage to the rear left tire. Police conducted a traffic stop and found the driver had their licence suspended. They also suspected the driver had consumed alcohol, but the accused refused to provide a breath sample.

The 24-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with refusal to comply, as well as additional charges under the Highway Traffic act. His vehicle was impounded for seven days, and license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
