According to updated data from the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) on Alcohol and Health, Huron-Perth residents are consuming more alcohol and putting themselves in high-risk compared to the rest of the province.

Huron Perth Public Health says 26% of residents aged 19 and older are at a higher risk for alcohol related consequences compared to Ontario average of 21%.

The CCSA updated their guidelines around alcohol last month, defining adults who consumed three to six alcoholic drinks a week as a moderate health risk. Seven or more is considered at a higher risk of heart disease or strokes.

The risk factors of alcohol include injuries, violence and several chronic diseases.
