The Wingham Lions Club spoke at last night’s North Huron as a Delegation.

Richard Hall and David Shaw spoke on various issues  they have with budget items North Huron Council is currently dealing with.

They presented 7 key points to the Service Club including the amount of any possible tax increase, the cost of the creation of a new council chamber, the cost of decommissioning Howson Dam, the importance of the Blyth Arena and first and foremost recreation not being an optional item. Lion Richard Hall said this on the topic.

“Accordingly we strongly suggest that you find items other than recreation to reduce or eliminate in your proposed budget to bring it down to a reasonable increase. We believe that recreational facitilies should not be devalued or interupted just because they don’t make money.”

East Wawanosh Ward Councillor Chris Palmer spoke in support of the Lions and added that the initial high estimate for a tax increase was just a first go round that all Municipalities and governments go through with every round after that bringing the rate down.
