The group working in effort to save the Historic Ball’s Bridge and the Little Lakes Road natural and cultural heritage landscape has a community meeting next month. Rebecca Garrett describe what the area and bridge is like.

“Ball’s Bridge is a very old iron bridge. It goes across the Menesetung or Maitland River. That is east of Goderich. It is at a point in the river where there is a kind of loop. It is a very beautiful spot where people come to fish, swim, canoe and things like that.”

The Group is having the meeting on April 25th at Benmiller Hall to discuss numerous issues concerning the area, least of which says Group Member Jennifer Morris is a proposed gravel pit for the area.

“We are very concerned about the lakes themselves and about the impact the aggregate mine will have on the environment, wildlife here, the water table, the Maitland River, the downstream effects of this, excetera, excetera not to mention the people who live here.”

The meeting starts at 7pm on Tuesday, April 25th at Benmiller Hall.
