The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is reviewing a Superior Court decision on Monday that ruled a strip of Sauble Beach has always belonged to Saugeen First Nation.
The decision by Justice Susan Vella ruled the decision on a piece of land just over 2 kilometer in length, located west of Lakeshore Boulavard and going between 1st Street South and 6th Street North.
The decision was based on Treaty 72, signed back in 1854. Justice Vella wrote that two years later, in 1856, the Crown improperly surveyed the land and marked it outside the reserve territory.
