All members of the South Bruce OPP are set to participate in a Provincial Traffic Safety Campaign focused on seatbelt compliance this coming long weekend.

Drivers and all passengers must be properly restrained in a vehicle, regardless of how short the trip may be.

The fine for not wearing a seatbelt is $240 and 2 demerit points.

While most people understand the lifesaving value of seatbelts, police encounter many excuses for failing to buckle up and it costs road users their lives year after year.

Excuses range from only driving a short distance, low speeds, them being uncomfortable or no longer needed due to airbags to name a few.
