Kincardine Fire & Emergency Services announced it has seen its member Captain Don Huston with its 2022 Harvey Gunnis Award.

The award is given out annually by the Bruce County Mutual Aid Assocation to a firefighter that has shown extreme dedication and gone over and above what is expected of them.

The Association is made up of all of the Fire Departments in Bruce County and was chosen by Captain Huston’s peers.

It is given in memory of the late Harvey Gunnis, who served as chief of the Wiarton Fire Department for 58 years.

At one time he was the longest serving fire chief in Canada. He joined the Fire Brigade in 1926 at the age of 19.

KFES say current recipient Don Huston has brought his calm, cool and collected demeanour to emergency scenes.

The South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department hosted the meeting and the award was presented by President of the Bruce County Mutual Aid Association Jenna Stewart.

Also present was South Bruce Peninsula Fire Chief Tim Wilson.
