The Town of Saugeen Shores Council is set to receive a Staff Report this evening on the proposal for possible return of  the Port Elgin & North Shore Railroad.

It was originally built by Doug Schlenker and ran in Port Elgin’s North Shore Park from 1973 to 1978.

Scott Pearson purchased it in 1999 and restored it in 2001.

He made a presentation in May of last year about returning it to Port Elgin’s North Shore Park.

A public consultation meeting saw strong support for the train’s return.

Town staff are supporting working with Pearson and incorporating it into the wholistic plan for the park.

Saugeen Shores Council’s meeting is tonight at 6:30 pm.
