Province lowers barriers to becoming a Police Officer in Ontario

Ontario is covering 100% of the cost of the Basic Constable Program, eliminating the Post-Secondary Educational requirement and increasing spaces.

The Provincial Government has announced new measures to lower the barriers for anyone wanting to become a police officer in Ontario.

Premier Ford announced the changes at the Toronto Police College this morning.

“Our government will now cover 100% of the cost of tuition for the Basic Constable Training Program at the Ontario Police College.”

Also announced is legislation, that if passed, would eliminate the post-secondary education requirement for becoming a police office.

They are also expanding the spaces for training at Police Colleges by 140 this year and 420 next year.
