The Chief Fire Officer for the Town of Hanover has lifted the fire ban on open-air burning and has permitted fireworks within the town boundaries.

The burn ban was put in place on June 7th due to very hot, dry conditions the area was experiencing.

The Official reminds residents that all open air burning in the town requires a burn permit. They can be obtained online along with paying of the fee.

The Fire Department provides tips for safe open air-burns including:

  • removing vegetation & other materials in the area that could spread prior to lighting
  • never leaving it unattended once lit
  • keeping it on a non-combustible surface & away from structures
  • having an adequate supply of water available to extinguish
  • be cautious when disposing of smoking materials
  • only burn permitted material.
