The Grey Bruce Health Unit is urging people to exercise extreme caution when using unregulated street drugs after receiving reports of 4 suspected opioid overdoses, including one fatal, over a recent 6-day-period.
An individual in their 50’s died on Wednesday of a suspected fentanyl overdose, while the non-fatal cases were reported between June 16th and 21st.
Each happened in the Owen Sound area.
GBPH advises that unregulated street drugs carry a high risk of toxicity, posing a threat to life.
They may be adulterated or mixed with hazardous substances such as fentanyl or carfentanil, both which lack odour and taste.
People who use drugs should never do so alone and always carry a naloxone kit.
If you must use alone they urge to call the National Overdose Response Service toll-free at 1-888-688-6677 prior to using.
