The South Bruce OPP, the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee and the Bluewater District Board of Education have partnered to bring anti-human trafficking education to Bruce & Grey County schools.
The Recognizing Exploitation, a syllabus to end trafficking curriculum is handled in four sessions over four weeks covering the topics of risk factors, consent, online safety and asking for help.
The lessons are age appropriate, offer local resources, compassion-based and interactive for students.
Katie Simpson, Clinical Manager at the Bluewater District School Board says they have already completed 376 lessons for all Grade 7 & 8 students across Grey & Bruce Counties.
She adds the positive impacts of the program are students advocating for themselves, reaching out during the early stages, knowing the resources, and feeling empowered to minimize risks & promote protection factors.
