Wescast Hands 180 Workers Layoff Notices

Despite claims from Wescast Industries it would not be closing its foundry in Wingham in late May, its been reported 180 workers were given layoff notices effective July 27th.

Parts are expected to now be made at Wescast’s plant in Wuhan, China and be sent to Wingham for machining keeping at least 100 jobs at the Wingham operation.

The foundry in Wingham has been operating since 1902 primarily manufacturing exhaust manifolds for automakers such as Ford, General Motors and Volvo.

Wescast was purchased in 2013 for $195 million by an industry based in China.
