Huron OPP & Coastguard rescue Pair on Paddleboard in ACW

Pair of 15-year-olds reported to OPP on Aug 28th after spending 2.5 hours on water without return to shore.

The Huron County OPP is reminding the public about boating safety after a report of two overdue teens on a paddleboard not wearing personal floatation devices on Monday, August 28th.

Huron OPP officers were dispatched to an address north of Goderich in Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh Township at 2:50 pm after a parent reported that their 15-year-old daughter and 15-year-old friend had ventured out on Lake Huron.

After around 2.5 hours without seeing the teens, the parent contacted Police.

The Marine Unit in Goderich was dispatched along with the Canadian Coastguard – Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

At around 3:10 pm the teens were located by the Coastguard and safely returned to shore. OPP officers attended the scene and spoke to the family about water safety.

Police remind the public to enjoy Lake Huron safely and ensure loved ones are always prepared with proper safety equipment adding the incident could have been a fatal situation.
