With tomorrow, October 17th, bring the UN Day for the Eradication of Poverty, it is the day devoted to presenting and promoting concrete efforts for the eradication of poverty.

The United Way Bruce Grey, the Bruce County Poverty Task Force and the Community Foundation of Grey Bruce says poverty is a violation of human rights.

The group came together recently to release a Grey Bruce Community Volunteer Income Tax Program Case Study.

It focused on the free income tax program offered recently in Tobermory and the South East Grey Community Health Centre.

It helped 332 residents access just over $1 million dollars in income benefits, tax credits and refunds across 5 municipalities.

On average each received just under $3,100.

There are 14 sites across Bruce & Grey registered with the CRA to provide free income tax services.
