With the Coldest Night of the Year walks happening across the Region on Saturday many local fundraisers are sitting considerably below their fundraising goals.
Locally in Kincardine the event to benefit the United Way Bruce-Grey Kincardine and the Good Food Box program sits at 66 percent of its goal of $25,000.
Co-Coordinator of the Good Food Box Program Wendy Cox speaks to the demand they have seen from those in need in the community.
“We did 199 boxes yesterday of which 81 were freebies. 16 of those were tokens people had brought in and the rest were ones we have on a list from the local food bank of people who need a box. We also keep a list of people we know who need a box.” said Cox.
The group, which provides affordable or free access to healthy fruits and vegetables, recently received $500 from the Kincardine & District Lions as well a further $400 the Ripley Lions and they also provide volunteers to assist with the program.
