2022 ROMA Conference launched today Monday January 24 (CNW Group/Rural Ontario Municipal Association)

ROMA is calling on the province to invest more in the budget to support rural healthcare.

In a report from ROMA, 22 recommendations are included to help fix rural healthcare in the province.

Dubbed the Fill the Gaps Closer to Home, the report notes access to primary care is declining far more rapidly in rural Ontario than urban areas, were greatly affected by a series of emergency department closures and communities in the area do not have the capacity in their network of community services which could absorb demand from ED’s.

ROMA also notes municipalities foot a share of the bill for health services, nearly $481 million in 2022.
