Grey-Bruce Public Health is encouraging residents and visitors to do their part in preventing tick bites while outside including areas where ticks commonly are found such as wooded or bushy areas, tall grass or piles of leaves.

Public health has updated its new Estimated Risk Area in Grey Bruce for blacklegged ticks which can transmit bacteria which causes Lyme disease.

Not all blacklegged ticks will carry the disease and not everyone bitten will develop symptoms.

In 2022 there were 1490 cases of Lyme disease though Ontario.

Public health says the best way to avoid tick bites is to use bug repellent containing DEET or Icaridin, wear light coloured clothing and walking on clear paths.

The Ontario Blacklegged Tick Risk Area map can be found here.
