The demand and increase need at food banks still continues to be a major problem across the country and that is felt locally with the Salvation Army.

The Suncoast Citadel in Goderich has seen the increase need at their food banks in both Goderich and Clinton and are hoping with some upcoming food drives they can keep their shelves stocked for those in need.

Kendall Strome, the Community and Family Services Supervisor for the Salvation Army says this year hasn’t slowed down on those needing extra food.

“When Christmas ended we just right went into the same big numbers again. Nothing has changed, we usually have a really big increase at Christmas then it kind of slows down but I’ve just had it keep going and I’ve been needing to hand out more food more often and its taking a hit on our food bank for sure.” said Strome.

Items most in demand include can soups, kraft dinner, canned meat like tuna and ham and baby items.

There are two food drives this week on the 27th and 28th at Food Basics in Goderich.
