Among one of the largest topics of discussion in Kincardine council this week was the public engagement results of the Secord Monument in town.

Since March, council and staff has been debating on what to do with one of the Secord monuments which references Dr. Soloman Secord’s service to the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.

Dr. Laura Mae Lindo presented her report to council of the 475 survey responses and as Dr. Lindo says, one of the biggest issues boils down to inclusion.

“There were a whole segment of community members in Kincardine who have deep roots in the community and who worry that the work of inclusion would leave them behind. One of things I think is important for leaders in the community to do is to make sure if you’re doing inclusion work that you are not leaving people behind” said Lindo.

Council took no immediate action following the report with Mayor Kenneth Craig saying its likely a final decision will be made in September.
