West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles has been reprimanded but not suspended after perceived threats made against the CEO and President of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Nancy Shaw.

An Integrity Commissioner began investigation after Eccless made two public statements in response to inpatient beds being relocated from the Durham Hospital to Walkerton and Kincardine.

Eccless made comments during a council meeting on April 30th which was written in the report saying “One statement that I’ve put out there verbally has been I told the CEO and President
of South Bruce Grey Health Association [Ms. Shaw] to keep her hands off of the Durham
Hospital and I’ll promise to keep my hands off your throat.”

Eccless apologized on May 5th with Shaw filing a complaint on May 21st.

The report concludes with the following recommendation;

That the remuneration paid to Mayor Eccles be suspended for a period
of 14 days (representing a single two-week pay period) however council voted against the recommendation 4-2 and instead kept with a formal reprimand.
