It’s some uneasiness in the supply chain as trains across the country are at a halt with 9300 workers locked out by both of Canada’s major railways.

An agreement has failed to be reached on a new contract by the 12:01am deadline marking the shutdown.

Its the first ever simultaneous work stoppage for the CN Rail and Canadian Pacific Kansas City.

Both companies haul around $1 billion in goods everyday which will greatly affect the agriculture, mining, retail, automaking, energy and construction sectors.

Ports fear containers will start piling up at the docks as cargo goes unmoved which will cause congestion down the line and prompt some carriers to re-route to US terminals.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke on Wednesday saying he had called both sides to work out a deal at the bargaining table.
