Saugeen Shores has kept busy over the month, with a heavy focus being put recently on the series of building permits issued mainly revolving for housing.
As of the end of August just under $100 million in building permits have been issued with around 150 of the over 200 permits used for new residential units.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says with these new permits and units coming in, it will help solve the local housing issues.
“We have a housing affordability crisis and the biggest reason for that is a lack of supply so getting housing constructed as fast as possible is how we’re going to bring the cost of housing down and getting rental units constructed is going to bring the cost of rents down.” said Charbonneau.
Charbonneau adds these new numbers are promising considering the difficulties seen in the second quarter of the year with the issues in the economy and construction industry.
