Standardized testing results have shown fewer Ontario students in grades 3 and 6 are meeting the provincial standard in reading and writing than the year prior.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office or EQAO results from the 2023-24 year showed math results are steady or improving slightly.

For Grade 3 students results showed 71 per cent met the provincial standard for reading which is down two per cent from the same time last year with 64 per cent meeting the writing standard, down from 65 per cent.

Grade 6 students saw 82 per cent met the standard for reading, down two per cent and 80 per cent meeting the provincial standard for writing, down 84 per cent from last year.

Grade 10 students for the literacy test showed 85 per cent were meeting the standard.

Education Minister Jill Dunlop said the results are encouraging adding after years of disruption to foundational classroom learning resulting from the pandemic, student learning in Ontario is stabilizing.
