Local Unemployment Rate Increases to 4.3 Per Cent

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the unemployment rate increased to 4.3 per cent last month.

The unemployment rate across the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region increased by 0.6 percentage points, the largest increase of all areas in Ontario in two straight months.

The number in the goods producing sector increased by 3.8 per cent with utilities seeing the largest gain of 8.3 per cent, 5.6 per cent in manufacturing and 2.8 per cent in construction.

There was a drop of 3.7 per cent in the services producing sector as well as in finance, insurance, real estate and rental and leasing.

There was a seasonal decrease in employment with a loss of 1300 full time and 200 part time jobs.
