Now that South Bruce residents have voted in favour of being a willing host for the DGR, there is a list of next steps to come.

The NWMO still has to confirm they will be locking in for South Bruce for the DGR once the process has completed with more tests still needing to be done to make sure the municipality can prove to be safe and suitable to have a site.

South Bruce Mayor Mark Goetz says the vote was only just the start and they are years away from the true end of this project with testing taking a bulk of the time.

“That process will take 10 years, so we’re far from the end of this process if the continuous of willingness is demonstrated here.” Goetz.

Council is expected to endorse the results of the referendum at a special meeting on November 12th.
