Canadians will be getting a break off the federal sales tax for a list of items in time for Christmas while 18.7 Canadians will also get $250 cheques next spring.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the new measure on Thursday with the GST break taking effect from December 14th-February 15th.
The break will come from restaurant meals for dine in, takeout or delivery, snacks such as chips, candy and granola bars, beer, wine and cider below 7 per cent ABV, children’s clothing, car seats and diapers, childrens toys such as board games and video game consoles and books, print newspapers and puzzles for all ages.
Canadians who worked in 2023 who made $150,000 or less will also receive a $250 cheque next spring.
