Winter ice operations have stopped at the Durham Dam.

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority’s Board of Directors made the call to stop the operations at the Durham Upper Dam in order to preserve the structure.

Erik Downing, SVCA General Manager says the decision to stop the operations is grounded in the need to prevent its failure.

The dam has been operating over winter since 2006 after West Grey council voted to leave stop logs and flash-boards in through the winter months.

The SVCA will re-evaluate the decision annually.
